A National Premiere! Delivered with Distinction!

A shipbuilding company under SUMEC Group Corporation (SUMEC) recently celebrated the distinguished delivery of its “ECO MAESTRO” (950TEU), the first-ever methanol dual-fuel powered feeder container ship in China. This milestone signifies a notable advancement in the company’s pursuit of specialized, high-value ship markets.

To date, the company has completed construction on four vessels of this methanol dual-fuel powered feeder container ship class. Each vessel stretches 148 meters in length, spans 27.2 meters in width, and reaches 14.3 meters in depth, achieving a cruising speed designed at 14 knots. The ships boast a revolutionary hatchless design that notably reduces the center of gravity, thereby maximizing container load capacity. Furthermore, these vessels are outfitted with a solitary-crew bridge, advanced electronic charting systems, and sophisticated automatic navigation and tracking systems, substantially elevating automation levels. The propulsion units are powered by the world’s first 5S50ME methanol dual-fuel main engine, a pioneering creation by MAN Energy Solutions of Germany, and are complemented by a shaft generator, an adjustable propeller, and energy-efficient appendages such as the suspended flap rudder.

Opting for methanol as fuel — recognized for its safety, efficiency, and low emission — enables these vessels to operate with zero carbon emissions, aligning with Phase 3 of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and meeting the stringent Tier III standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In a series of recent achievements, the shipbuilding company successfully delivered the Crown 63 version 3.0 bulk carriers, labeled DY4148 (“CL HUAIHUA”) and NDY1256, to China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. and CMB Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., respectively. These transactions are poised to bolster the company’s operational fleet and further solidify a foundation of trust and collaborative partnership with its clientele. In a strategic move to extend its industry footprint, the company has also entered into an agreement with CCB Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. for the construction of two additional Crown 63 version 3.0 bulk carriers and has renewed intent with Bohai Shipping for two more vessels, thereby broadening its influential network within the financial leasing domain.
