[Electronics] Valeo will supply the third-generation Scala Lidar to Stellantis Group from 2024

Valeo has revealed that its third-generation Lidar products will enable L3 autonomous driving under SAE rules and will be available in several models of Stellantis. Valeo expects a booming advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving in the coming years. It says the automotive Lidar market will quadruple between 2025 and 2030, eventually reaching a total global market size of €50 billion.

Key Point: As semi-solid-state Lidar improves in terms of cost, size, and durability, it is gradually entering the commercial start-up phase of the passenger car market. In the future, as solid-state technology develops, Lidar will become a mature commercial sensor for vehicles.

[Chemical] Wanhua Chemical has developed the world’s first 100% bio-based TPU material

Wanhua Chemical has launched a 100% bio-based TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) product based on in-depth research on a bio-based integrated platform. The product uses bio-based PDI made from corn straw. Additives such as rice, bran, and wax are also derived from non-food corn, grated hemp, and other renewable resources, which can minimize carbon emissions from the end consumer products. As the basic raw material for daily needs, TPU is also being transformed into a sustainable bio-based one.

Key Point: Bio-based TPU has the advantages of resource conservation and renewable raw materials. With excellent strength, high tenacity, oil resistance, resistance to yellowing, and other properties, TPU can empower footwear, film, consumer electronics, food contact, and other fields in green transformation.

[Lithium battery] The tide of power battery decommissioning is approaching, and the 100-billion-dollar recycling market is becoming a new windfall.

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment and other six departments issued the Implementation Plan for Synergies in Reducing Pollution and Carbon Emissions. It proposes resource recovery and comprehensive utilization to promote the recycling of retired power batteries and other new waste. National Energy Administration predicts that the power battery recycling market will reach 164.8 billion yuan in the next decade. Supported by both the policy and market, power battery recycling is expected to become a emerging and promising industry.

Key Point: The lithium battery recycling segment of Miracle Automation Engineering already has the capacity to handle 20,000 tons of waste lithium batteries per year. It has started the construction of a new project in recycling and treatment of waste lithium iron phosphate batteries in April 2022.

[Double Carbon Goals] Digital technology drives energy revolution, and the trillion-dollar market for smart energy attracts giants.

Intelligent energy integrates and mutually promotes digitalization and green processes to achieve purposes like energy saving, emission reduction, and renewable energy reuse. The general energy-saving efficiency is 15-30%. China’s spending on digital energy transformation is expected to grow at an annual rate of 15% by 2025. Tencent, Huawei, Jingdong, Amazon, and other Internet giants have entered the market to provide smart energy services. Currently, SAIC, Shanghai Pharma, Baowu Group, Sinopec, PetroChina, PipeChina, and other large enterprises have achieved intelligent management of their energy systems.

Key Point: Digitalized production and operation will be vital in carbon reduction for enterprises. New products and models featuring intelligent integration, energy-saving, and low carbon will emerge rapidly, becoming an important engine to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutriality goals.

[Wind power] The first turbine of the largest single-capacity offshore wind power project in Guangdong Province was successfully lifted and installed.

Shenquan II offshore wind power project will install 16 sets of 8MW wind turbines and 34 sets of 11MW wind turbines. It is the country’s heaviest single wind turbine and the largest wind turbine sets in diameter. Influenced by the project approval and model replacement and upgrade, the first five months of this year saw a year-on-year output decrease in the wind power industry. Onshore wind turbines have been upgraded from 2-3MW to 5MW, and the offshore wind turbines have been upgraded from 5MW to 8-10MW. The domestic substitution of main bearings, flanges, and other high-growth components is expected to accelerate.

Key Point: The domestic wind power bearing market mainly includes four foreign companies including Schaeffler and domestic manufacturers such as LYXQL, Wazhoum, and Luoyang LYC. The overseas companies have advanced and diversified technical routes, while domestic companies are progressing faster. The competition between the domestic and overseas companies in wind power bearing is increasingly fierce.
